The Sobey Postdoctoral Fellowship was established to nurture, promote, and advance highly innovative and creative multidisciplinary research in the school. The Postdoctoral Fellowship is part of the broader initiative to grow the research and scholarship impact of the Sobey School and is funded from the historic gift received by the school from the Sobey Family, Sobey Foundation and Sobeys Inc. in 2019. The Sobey Post-Doctoral Fellow will join a Sobey alumni cohort – a community comprised of all beneficiaries of Sobey gifts to the Sobey School of Business.

The position is for two years beginning from July 1, 2025. Continuation after the first year will be contingent upon satisfactory performance in the first year.

Research focus
The Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to ongoing projects and develop their own agenda in the domain of behavioral science, innovation, and technology. We are interested in candidates with research interests in digital marketing and consumer responses to new technologies, particularly generative artificial intelligence. As part of an interdisciplinary research team dedicated to advancing behavioural science, the fellow will apply quantitative and/or experimental field methods to tackle research questions.

Job qualifications
To be eligible, candidates must complete their PhD before July 1, 2025. Candidates will have research expertise in behavioral or social sciences, with a record of applying quantitative and/or experimental field methods. The strongest candidates will have a PhD in psychology, marketing, economics, or a related field. Candidates should also have excellent analytical and programming skills (e.g., Stata, R, Python, SPSS) and research interests that align closely with the areas of digital marketing, consumer responses to new technologies, and innovation.

Compensation and expectations
The fellowship provides salary stipend of CAD $75,000/year plus a research budget of CAD $5,000/year. The successful candidate will also be eligible for Saint Mary’s University benefits, including health and dental insurance. Teaching is not required for this position; if classes are available, a postdoc may teach for extra pay. During the period of the fellowship, fellows are expected to be in residence, work with faculty on research projects, and participate in seminars, workshops, and other academic activities. Relocation funding is not provided.
